For years 'teeth straightening' has been seen as a treatment only carried out on teenagers. Now with the latest technology, adults too can benefit from wearing a brace but without all the hang-ups of years gone by.
With Invisalign treatment, your teeth are straightened using a pair of transparent aligners which are moulded to the exact shape of your teeth using 3D computer imaging. Invisalign aligners are so comfortable to wear that you will soon forget that they are there - they are also invisible when worn and so there is none of the embarrassment that comes with wearing large metal braces.
Invisalign can be removed for eating, drinking, brushing and flossing your teeth, but otherwise are worn continuously. Every fortnight the aligners are replaced by the next pair in the series so that your teeth are slowly moving and straightening without pain or discomfort. The use of aligners exerts a controlled force on the teeth: at different stages in the process, only certain teeth will be allowed to move. Thus the whole process is gradual, controlled and painless.
Thank you to the whole team at SE1 Dental. I had an appointment yesterday morning and got the usual first class treatment that I've always enjoyed with you. It is very refreshing to have such a high quality local dental practice and I am very grateful for it!!
Your first visit will be an Invisalign Consultation with our principal dentist, Dr Monica Matseke, where you will have the chance to discuss the concerns you have with your smile - and what you would like your new smile to look like. At the same time, Monica will take the time to thoroughly explain to you what Invisalign treatment is, and what it involves.
The next step is to take an impression of your teeth which is sent away to the laboratory where plaster moulds are made. Using 3D imaging technology, the computer is able to chart a sequence showing how your teeth will move and change until they are in their final position.
Laser scanning, and precision 3D printing, is then used to make sets of Invisalign aligners for each progressive stage of your straightening process. These aligners are sent back to us here at SE1 Dental, and then passed on to you the patient.
You will then need to wear each progressive set of Invisalign aligners for two weeks, removing them only to eat, drink and brush your teeth.
You will continue to visit SE1 Dental every 6 weeks to ensure that the whole process is continuing smoothly and to review your progress. The average time for the straightening procedure with Invisalign is usually somewhere between 6 to 15 months, as the process is steady and controlled.
